LE GRAND BLEU

Hotel-Dieu with its distinctive tiled roof.

We had dinner at this fish restaurant close to our hotel. It seems that all seafood restaurants in France have this name - the seafood restaurant in Saumur is also called "Le Grand Bleu".
We both had a starter - Rich had a gazpacho of lobster and asperagus, and I had six pétoncles, which were like coquilles St.Jacques only smaller.
After the starter the chef sent us an "amuse-bouche": a chilled melon and tomato soup.
For the entrée we shared a fish called a bar that was caught off the coast of Brittany. It was grilled "à la planche" and was served with a butter sauce that we could spoon over the fillet. Delicious!
I had a selection of cheeses and then they served dessert: moelleux for Rich, crème brulée for me. We finished the meal with coffee and calvados.
