STRAWBERRY BEDS

Helen's first day on vacation. Even though this weekend is the August Bank Holiday Helen had to work on Sunday. But today she started her official week off. Farmleigh House and Estate was open so we decided to spend the day there.
Gemma made a big fry for breakfast (Full Irish Breakfast: rasher, sausage, black pudding, white pudding, beans-on-toast, googgly eggs, grilled tomato). Then we all headed out for Farmleigh.
At Farmleigh the Sunday Farmers Market was extended to the Bank Holiday Monday. There was also a food court (literally a "food courtyard") where we tasted cheeses and curry, bread and jam, and coffee.
We had arrived just in time for the guided tour of the open parts of the house. We saw how the Iveagh family lived in opulance for two weeks every year in one of their six country homes. After the tour we sat out on the lawn and listened to a group play Beatles songs. I soon bored of that and went by myself to check out the walled garden and the sunken garden. I also saw the art gallery where there was an exhibition of works from the collection of Butler House in Kilkenny.
It was beginning to become overcast with dark threatening clouds. We decided to decamp to Strawberry Hall in the Strawberry Beds for a drink. We only had time for one drink outside before the rain started to come down.
On the way home in the car as we were going up Kylemore Road Timmy told about being stuck on this road for more than four hours the last time there was a snow storm in Dublin.
