PEAR SALAD

I made a pear salad for dinner. I bought the pears, avocado, and mâche at the little store in the village, the beats come already cooked from Lidl, as does the grated carrot. Everything is so fresh here.
I chatted with the man who owns the village store. His is Lebanese. He told me that he fled to Cypress during the civil war. He lived there with his wife and two children for years while they waited for an end to the war. Finally they realized that the war was never going to end and decided to rebuild there lives in France. He lived in Paris for a while then moved to Saumur where a cousin was living. He saw in the local newspaper that the store in Monsoreau was for sale. He bought it and has been here ever since.
