LA VIE ET LA MORT: MórRíogain

What happened to this bird?
Did it fall out of the sky or was it attacked on the ground by another animal?  Did it die of cold or was it diseased in some way that left it vulnerable to the weather or predators?

This dead bird greeted us on New Year's Morning.  One immediately thinks that it is an omen, a sign of something to come.  Is it foretelling the death of Natalie Cole, perhaps?

Does the omen have to be of something bad that is going to happen?  A crow is part of the national symbol for the Easter Revolution, and it seems very appropriate that this particular omen should appear on the first day of 2016.  It could be the sign we have waited so long for, that the British have been driven from our country and peace again reigns among all the peoples of the island of Ireland.

A bhuí le Rí na bhFeart go bhfeiceam,
Mura mbeam beo ina dhiaidh ach seachtain,
Gráinne Mhaol agus míle gaiscíoch,
Ag fógairt fáin ar Ghallaibh.
