VIVE LA REVOLUTION
The party: Rich, Anne-Marie, Tim, Doug, Mary, moi.
We spent the day trying to recover from the night before. Anne and Tim went off by themselves to do last minute gift shopping at the soap factory (Martin de Candre). We headed into Chinon with Doug and Mary to hang out at the café in the Place de la Fontaine. I discovered that there is free wireless in that area so I tried to research an itinerary for Doug and Mary’s return to Paris using mappy.fr. I like mappy because it tells you how much the journey will cost (gas + tolls), what the maximum speed is on each part of the journey, and most importantly where there are radar speed cameras.
In the afternoon we went back to the house to “look for Rich’s nosering” (a Mary Thomasism) but before we could get to it the lady from across the street accosted me and brought me in to her house for a pastis. I tried to escape by saying that I needed to get back home but she said she would come too and put the bottle in her bag to take with her. We had to entertain her until we were saved by the arrival of Karen and Nico who told her we were ready to go to dinner.
Self-portraits: Jackie and Aristide.
We did indeed go to dinner at the camping where Harry James has a bar and small restaurant in the open air. Karen could not come with us but everybody else was there, both to celebrate Bastille Day and to bid farewell to our guests who were leaving the next day.
The fish menu – there was also a meat menu.
We finished the evening by ourselves. We walked up the Haute Rue to see the fireworks over Chinon.

How were Harry James's Burgers?
Is the Haute Route, the road up to the Chateau??
What an excellent Bastille Day! Of course, the salad was the best part.
I never tried his burgers (or his burghers, for that matter). His "seiche" is delicious.
