SCANNÁN: Brooklyn, John Crowley, 2015

I was not prepared for the impact this movie would have on me.
I had read the book and thought that I knew what was in store in the movie.
But this movie walloped me emotionally, and I am still trying to make sense of how much it has affected me.

The cinematography hit me first, a Fujifilm of mid-century greens and blues that cut across the parallel universes of post-Emergency Ireland and post-WWII America: the green spoke to an Ireland that couldn't quite shake off the depression of dreams denied, while the blue painted the optimism of a Frida in her Casa Azul and medical corsets.
