THE “FOREIGNERS” CHURCH

The bullaun

I went to church today. I like the tradition of attending the Protestant church in the village rather than the Catholic service. For a start the Catholic mass is at 9:30 in the morning while the Church of Ireland service begins at midday. Very civilized. I walked over there in the morning, arriving just as things were getting under way. This is probably the tenth service that I have attended in this church over the years but today was the most dismal. There were barely ten people there and at least five of those were visitors or tourists. I wonder how long this tradition is going to continue.
On the way back home I checked for the bullaun. It is still there and still as enigmatic as ever.
