WALLS OF JERICHO

Constant arrived at 8:30am this morning to begin work on the pointing of the walls on the first floor.
We were ready to go.  I had already mixed a batch of chaux (3 parts sand, 1 part chaux, water sufficient to make a slurry) and was busy putting down drop cloths.  Constant got straight to work.  He showed me how to force the chaux into the joints and quickly move on to another section.  We worked all day with only a break for lunch.  By the afternoon, Constant had finished about a third of the walls and showed me how to brush the excess chaux off and make it look all rusticy.

We are moving along nicely on PROJECT: Montsoreau.  The electrical is complete on the first floor and soon the joints will be finished and Rich can move back into his own bedroom.  He already has a nice en suite bathroom and some brand-new lighting.  Today, we talked with M. Dillay about tearing out the concrete staircase and replacing it with a wooden stairway en chêne to match the stairway to the grenier.  That is scheduled to begin in January, 2016 and be finished before we get here for the Summer.  Our personal "Stairway to Heaven" is definitely taking shape.
